Usage of Differential Pressure Transmitter in Cleanroom Application

Typically speaking, a cleanroom is constructed to establish a environment where containment of pollutant particles is controlled to low level. Cleanroom is extensively applicable in every industrial processes that impact of small particles needs to be eradicated, such as medical device, biotech, food & beverage, scientific research and so on.

To achieve the purpose, cleanroom is supposed to be made a confined space with factors like temperature, humidity and pressure is under stringent control. Pressure of the isolated room is generally required to be maintained higher or lower than ambient pressure surrounding, that can be called positive pressure room or negative pressure room respectively. 

In a positive pressure cleanroom, ambient air is prevented from entering while the air inside can freely escape. The process is controlled by fans or filters to blow clean air into the appropriately sealed space instead of allowing free entrance of air from the surrounding environment, preventing any Intrusion of contamination from ambience. Positive air pressure is commonly utilized in pharmaceutical plants, hospital operating rooms, laboratory facilities, wafer fabrication facilities, and other similar environments.

A negative pressure room, on the contrary, is designed to maintain relatively low air pressure through ventilation system. Ambient air is permitted to enter while room air is extracted to certain specific place. The room design can be commonly found in infectious wards of hospital, dangerous chemical labs and industrial hazard areas to protect patient and staff in proximity from spread of infectious or harmful gas.

The design concept of cleanroom shows that control of pressure difference plays a crucial role in preventing contamination. Therefore a differential pressure transmitter is an ideal tool to monitor pressure both inside and outside the cleanroom to check whether the pressure discrepancy is properly maintained. In combination with other temperature and humidity measuring device the transmitter is able to roundly verify the effectiveness of the cleanroom.
